Dr. Romesh Wadhwani is an entrepreneur, technologist, and philanthropist. Over his business career, he has built more than 40 successful technology companies. During the last two decades, he has built the Wadhwani Foundation into the leading foundation focused on accelerating job creation in India and other emerging countries in Asia, Latin America, and Africa through large-scale initiatives in entrepreneurship, small business growth, and skilling. Dr. Wadhwani is the founder and chairman of SymphonyAI, an enterprise AI software company, and chairman of ConcertAI, a life sciences healthcare AI company. Founded in 2017, SymphonyAI is a leader in high-value enterprise AI software solutions for strategic sectors including retail, CPG, financial services, manufacturing, media, IT service management, and government. ConcertAI, also founded in 2017, delivers AI solutions for biomedical innovators, healthcare providers, and medical societies. Previously, Dr. Wadhwani was the founder and CEO of Symphony Technology Group (STG), a strategic private equity firm that helps build great software and technology-enabled services companies. Dr. Wadhwani established STG in 2002, growing it to $2.5 billion in combined revenue and 15,000 employees. Prior, Dr. Wadhwani was the founder and CEO of Aspect Development Inc., a B2B software firm. Aspect Development was acquired in 2000 for $9.3 billion, the largest software acquisition at the time. In 2001, Dr. Wadhwani established the Wadhwani Foundation to accelerate job creation and economic development in India and other emerging economies through large-scale initiatives in entrepreneurship, innovation, and skilling. Today, the foundation is active in India and more than 20 countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The Wadhwani Advantage and Wadhwani Entrepreneur initiatives help thousands of entrepreneurs start new businesses and thousands of SME businesses each year to accelerate their growth, creating a large number of new jobs. The Wadhwani Advantage initiative helps tens of thousands of students each year learn employability and soft skills and get placed in high-quality jobs. In 2018, Dr. Wadhwani and his brother Sunil Wadhwani established the Wadhwani Institute for AI for Social Good in Mumbai, a non-profit research institute and global hub for developing AI solutions for social good in public health, education, skilling, job creation, and infrastructure. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Wadhwani Institute in 2018. WIAI was awarded the Google Prize in 2019 for one of its innovative initiatives.
